Freight is a play i wrote whilst at rada and i will also be directing it in the Gielgud Theatre as part of the annual RADA Festival; bringing together an eclectic range of artists, writers, directors and practitioners to celebrate the possibilities of theatre today. The Festival takes place over ten days at the end of June and into early July.
Set in an American train freight carriage where two characters meet for the first time surrounded by a cargo of salt. This play is about journeys, borders and territories, geographically and emotionally.
Freight explores themes of tense human relationships and the power struggles at play through political barriers to social mobility and human trafficking. Lyrical and sharp, this raw text cuts into the power play of words, wisdom, desire and the filth we'd rather forget.
Containing elements of verbatim, scriptural and lyrical references, this experimental play is restless and refuses to be pinned down. Performed in real time.
The RADA Festival challenges, inspires and provokes urgent social and political questions. The Festival is also a springboard for emerging talent showcasing creative collaborations. We believe theatre should be accessible and relevant for all, and offer captioned and BSL-signed performances during the Festival.
The RADA Festival provides a platform for new writing to reach diverse audiences. Work presented at previous festivals has subsequently been performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Brighton Fringe Festival, Prague Fringe, Trafalgar Studios, Park Theatre and many more
